flickr is acquired

So flickr was acquired by SmugMug. I guess this is good. Yahoo has really let the ball drop with flickr, even though the site isn’t as bad as everyone has made it out to be. Frankly, I still like flickr a lot more than other social media sites. There was a dark time several years ago where they royally doinked up the interface, but they eventually made some changes and I think it is reasonably useful now. Though it is horribly under-promoted. I also like the API; coupled with python, you can do some nice things.1

I’ve also been a member since 2005. Dang yo.

  1. I also have a script (that I modified from someone else) to download thumbnails for the flickr ‘badge’ at the bottom of the page. I wanted to make it static badge (I hate slow pages that talk to a million different sites) to replace the tried and true (and now deprecated) flickr badge script. ↩︎
