I don’t think I ever finished talking about electric propulsion (electric 🚀!) NASA just recently awarded a contract to build the Power and Propulsion Element. Should be a fun few years and hopefully we’ll be flying to the moon very efficiently and demonstrating high power solar electric propulsion for future deep space missions.
I need a new Mac. My 2015 MacBook Pro’s battery is swelling and its time is coming to an end. I need some help figuring out what to get:
- I don’t really need portable.
- I have some decent monitors but would be interested in upgrading. I will want to calibrate any monitor solution.
- Photoshop is the most demanding application I use. 40 meg RAW files, processed in Adobe Camera Raw. I don’t use Lightroom.
- I want quiet. No loud fans all the time. possbile most important.
- I think I want a T2 chip?
The iMac 5k is probably the best bet, but it has no T2 chip (and that is the state of the art, right?), and I am worried about fan noise right in front of my head. It sounds loud from what I’ve read. The iMac Pro fits the bill but is expensive. And lastly, a Mac mini has a crummy GPU. I might outfit a Mac mini with an LG 4K screen, approaching iMac 5k price.
Portable is nice, but I can always use my wife’s MacBook. Work supplies a laptop for me and I hope to switch to a MacBook this year if I can. So even though I’ve been using Mac laptops for close to 20 years, I think I’m moving back to a desktop.
I’m leaning towards a Mac mini? Am I going in the right direction? I could also get an iPad Pro with the cost delta compared to the iMac 5k I configured…
